Capturing a Dictator Part 1

Guest: Lt. Col. Steven Russell

Where does a soldier's heart come from, and -- can you really be a Christian and go to war? On today's program, both of these questions will be addressed as we hear from Lt. Col. Steven Russell. He credits World War II vets for inspiring him to enlist in the Army, then recalls the day his military career culminated in the capture of the infamous dictator: Saddam Hussein. Steve Russell served 21 years in the United States Army as an infantry officer, deploying operationally to Kosovo, Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Iraq. During the first year of the Iraq War, his command of the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division was widely covered by Time, CNN, Fox News, ABC, CBS, NBC, Associated Press, and Reuters. He and his unit were featured in BBC Panorama's Saddam on the Run documentary, as well as Discovery's Ace in the Hole. Russell retired from the Army in 2006 and has advocated nationally for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan. He has appeared on such diverse programs as Hannity, Huckabee, on C-SPAN and Deadliest Warrior. His opinion pieces have been featured in publications such as The Weekly Standard, The New York Daily News, and Christian Science Monitor. He serves as the Chairman of Veterans Affairs as an Oklahoma State Senator. Now an internationally renowned speaker, Russell lives in Oklahoma with his wife and five children.
