Are Conservative Christians Too Uninvolved in Public Policy?

Question: Why are people who believe in traditional values less involved in public issues than the secular humanists? Do conservative Christians care less about their ideas than the liberals do?

Answer: I have been troubled by that question for several years. Many Christians would give their lives for their faith if necessary, and yet they consistently get whipped in the public arena. Their philosophical opponents get there first, fight better when the heat is on, and remain on the battlefield after the pro-family people have gone home. How can this be? Why is our army so tentative?

After giving the matter much thought, I believe I now understand the problem. The difference is that the other side earns a living by fighting policy battles, while we are merely motivated by ideology. Antifamily organizations receive multiplied millions of dollars in subsidies each year. It is no wonder they fight like fanatics when those funds are threatened in Washington.

Likewise, the abortionists, the pornographers, liberal educators, and empire-building bureaucrats all feed at the public trough. Their livelihood depends on it, which helps explain the tenacity of the left. They don't give up, even after years of defeat and disappointment. How about pro-family troops? Well, they're not quite so tough. They get discouraged and embarrassed by a single setback. They're up to their ears in responsibility at home and just can't afford more than a quick skirmish. Obviously, conservative Christians must learn to go the distance if they're to defend the things in which they believe. Votes are what it's all about, and yet half the Christians are not even registered. No wonder they get whipped year in and year out.
